Following the conference theme ‘Building a Sustainable and Desirable Future’, the Committee is developing a program that will highlight the advances and research made to address the current environmental problems facing our fast-changing world. A focus will be on the sustainable solutions to the most pressing problems of our time.

Symposia

Symposia will generally last 1.5 hours (although more time may be allocated to select Symposia based on the response to the call for abstracts) and should include between four and six 15-minute talks. 15-30 minutes can also be dedicated to lightning talks (e.g., 5 minutes and no questions) or a round table discussion.

Role of Symposium Organizers
Symposium organizers of accepted proposals are expected to communicate with prospective presenters regarding submission of abstracts and will be asked to review abstracts submitted for their sessions during the abstract review period (in December 2022 and January 2023). The Scientific Committee will review and approve (or ask for modifications) of all sessions before the final program is announced.

At least one of the organizers must register for the conference and will be responsible for chairing sessions.

Working Groups

Working Groups can be thought of as a version of the extremely successful format used by synthesis centers like NCEAS and SESYNC.

Rather than presenting papers in a session, as is the case with Symposia, Working Groups are designed to bring together researchers to address a topic that requires their creative, collaborative inputs. The goal is to produce a publishable product on the topic of interest. Background material can be presented, but the goal is to facilitate discussion and create a new synthesis product. This can be a single paper, a special issue, or other appropriate output, including, but not limited to, an agenda, joint statement or recommendation.

All of the EcoSummit supporting publications are open to receiving special issues proposals coming out of accepted Working Groups.

Working groups can be open to a pre-defined subset of participants, or open to all conference attendees with group size or other limitations set by the organizers.

Role of Working Group organizers
The expectation is that during EcoSummit, Working Groups can discuss initial ideas to the point of creating a draft outline and plan for completion of the project by the Working Group members after the EcoSummit.

At least one of the organizers must register for the conference and will be responsible for facilitating and moderating the discussion, as well as coordinating any publishing efforts after the conference.

Financial Support
Financial support for organizers or speakers will NOT be provided by EcoSummit.
